Frequently Asked Questions

How does Solar Energy work?

If you have a south facing roof (if you are not sure, we can let you know), a panel or panels with photovoltaic (PV) cells will be installed on your roof. The panels work on daylight - not just sunlight or heat - so your system will work all year round.

Is Solar Energy easy to install?

The installation process is straightforward, with minimal disturbance and very little wiring. Systems are 'fit and forget' because with no moving parts, they require minimal maintenance. Installation is supported by our specialised after-sales service and has an extensive guarantee.

Are there any planning problems?

In England and Scotland, you don't need planning permission for most home solar electricity systems - but you should check with your local planning officer if your home is listed, or is in a conservation area.

How much can I save?

Solar Energy will save you money off your electricity bill. The amount you save will depend on the size and number of solar panels. To get a more accurate idea of the savings and income for your home visit the Energy Savings Trust Solar Calculator.

What is a Feed in Tariff?

From 1 April 2010, households with approved schemes are paid by the electricity companies for the electricity they generate. For more see our Investment page.

How much might I earn?

Anyone fitting a typical 2.5kW PV system will initially be paid 21p per kilowatt hour (kWh) generated. Enough, according to the Government, to reward them with up to £600 in the first year on top of a £150-a-year saving on their bills. Our FREE Home Survey will provide much more precise information.

What happens if I move house?

A Solar Energy system should add to the value of your home as more people seek to install Solar Energy.

What maintenance is required?

There are no moving parts and solar panels require no maintenance and are designed to last 20-30 years.
